Speaker 1 00:00:05 Good morning and welcome to the daily cat WN URS daily news brief. I'm your host, Ellie Skelly with a few things you need to know today. It's 9:00 AM central time on January 18th, 2022. Let's get into today's news last night and basketball. The Northwestern Wildcats faced off against the Wisconsin. Badgers. The cats went into the game on the heels of a huge upset after winning against Michigan state on Saturday, chase audit racked up 23 points and BU Bubi scored 19, but neither were enough to defeat the badgers. Stay tuned on Sunday when they cats play Purdue. And what promises to be an interesting game in Evanston, a new Memorial hopes to honor Dr. Martin Luther king and bring hopes of racial equality. The mural title resolved was painted by local artists, Ben Blount. It can be seen at 600 Washington street and reads quote. Whereas city of Evanston embraces believes, recognizes acknowledge declares and affirms the mural echoes the verbs. Speaker 1 00:01:15 Use an Evanston's 2019 resolution to ending structural racism and achieving racial equality. Almost 90% or 660 Illinois school districts have reported a crisis level teacher shortage. The shortage has caused dozens of suburban schools to temporarily close. Following the winter break districts report more than 2000 positions are in need of qualified teachers. The Illinois association of regional superintendent of schools is recommending legislative proposals to incentivize teachers. This includes making it easier for retired teachers to return to classrooms new scholarship programs for potential teachers, enhanced monitoring programs and licensure processes and increased benefits yesterday. The Biden administration's new website for free at-home COVID tests went live a day before expected press secretary. Jen Saki said that early registration was part of a beta testing phase for the us digital service, the website COVID test.org. So 1 million visitors and had some glitches.
