Speaker 1 00:00:06 Good morning and welcome to the daily. Pat WMUR is daily news brief. I'm your host Madison Bratton with a few things you need to know today. It's 9:00 AM on Tuesday, January 18th and Parson classes resumed today. Marking the end of the university's Wildcat wellness program for the past two weeks. Northwest new required classes to be held on zoom as a measure to limit the spread of COVID-19 on campus from January 7th to January 13th, 356, undergraduate students 229 graduate students, 153 staff members and 25 faculty members tested positive for the virus totaling 763 new cases. The week before the university reported 1022 new cases, Martin Luther king dream week events organized by Northwestern will now be virtual. The week spans from Martin Luther king Jr day, January 17th to January 24th. Nicole Hannah Jones is this year's keynote speaker in 2020. Hannah Jones won the Pulitzer prize for commentary for her work on the 1619 project. Speaker 1 00:01:10 And anti-racism mural was officially dedicated on Monday Martin Luther king Jr day. The wall in Washington street near Chicago avenue says quote. Whereas city of Evanston embraces, believes, recognizes acknowledges declares and affirms and quote, and an honors, a 2019 Edmonson city council resolution that expressed the cities want to end structural racism and achieve racial equality. Three mass vaccination sites in cook county are reopening amid the Omicron surge, the forest park Mattson and Dez Plains mass vaccination sites will reopen this week. After closing in July, the locations will have hours from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday and 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Sunday walk-ins are accepted, but those were the appointments will be prioritized. Anyone ages five or older is eligible for the vaccine at anyone ages 12 and up can get a booster shot. 80% of residents in suburban cook county have gotten at least one vaccine and 40% have gotten a booster on Sunday. Speaker 1 00:02:08 A gunman took hostages inside a suburban Fort worth synagogue during the live stream services rabbi Charlie Citron Walker told CBS mornings on Monday that he threw a chair at his catheter before escaping with two other people being held hostage. Authorities identified the hostage taker as a British citizen who was killed Saturday night, the FBI on Sunday night. So the situation was a quote terrorism related matter and quote Virginia's first female Lieutenant governor Republican winsome Earl Sears took her seat Monday for her first time presiding over the Virginia Senate. She's also the first black woman to hold statewide office Earl Sears immigrated to the U S from Jamaica and served in the Marines. That's all for today's daily cat black from WMUR news.
