Speaker 1 00:00:02 Good morning. You're listening to the daily cat. Your morning news brief from w N U R news. I'm your host, Alex Harrison. It's 9:00 AM central time on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2021. Here are the headlines to start. Your day. Northwestern will offer undergraduate students a discounted pass for CTA, trains and buses in winter and spring quarters. The offer serves as a pilot program between the university and the CTA and comes after the associated student government recommended Northwestern, make it easier for students to travel into Chicago and unlimited pass for both. Quarters will cost just above $200 Evanston school district 65 extended it's Thanksgiving break to include Monday and Tuesday after a mass sick out of teachers that left it without sufficient staffing. Maria Barroso, the president of the districts, teachers, union encouraged staff, and a Thursday email to call in sick on those days, citing a need to prioritize their mental health. Speaker 1 00:01:02 During a particularly stressful school year, the district will extend its year by two days to make up for the cancellations. Billionaire Jeff Bezos is donating $100 million to the Obama foundation located in Chicago's Jackson park neighborhood in return for his donation. Bezos requested the foundation's Plaza be named after late civil rights leader and Georgia representative. John Lewis, the donation is the largest single contribution to the foundation to date. Target will keep it stores closed nationwide on Thanksgiving day, making permanent and emergency pandemic adjustment made last year. Discounts and deals typically concentrated into the black Friday weekend are instead being spread throughout the weeks, leading up to Christmas, avoiding overcrowding and taking some pressure off of the company's labor force. Austria has instituted its fourth national lockdown of the pandemic and response to a tripling of new cases and deaths in recent weeks. The lockdown began Monday and will last for at least 10 days. Although an extension to 20 days is expected to fully curb the case. Surge Austria has one of the lowest vaccination rates in Western Europe with approximately two thirds of Austrians being fully vaccinated.
