It's 9:00 AM central time on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022 today's daily cat is climate change edition. Here are the environmental headlines to start your day. Northwestern students organized an all night long earth day event. Last Friday, the event was titled generations of environmental justice and was organized to provide students and Evanston residents with climate education, professors, activists and environmental justice organizers spoke about topics such as environmental racism, indigenous tribes fights against pipelines and climate action planning and Evanston. The program ended on the Lakeville where participants gathered to reflect on the experience and watch the sunrise Evanston township high school students walked out of school Monday in the name of climate change. The demonstration was organized by students in eTown sunrise, a local chapter of the national sunrise movement.
Speaker 1 00:01:17 Students marched 1.3 miles from the high school to fountain square in downtown Evanston. They demanded the district follow through on climate efforts and called on administrators to hire a staff member dedicated to sustainability efforts. Students were joined by members of citizens, greener, Evanston, and the Chicago area. Peace action, as well as local residents in Northwestern students. Last week, Chicago public schools released its first ever climate action plan. The district is aiming to transition to 100% renewable electricity sources by 2025 and to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 45% over the next decade. CPS plans to implement expanded cafeteria and composting programs in partnership with nonprofit seven generations ahead. Earlier this month, the United nations released a report declaring that cities create about 75% of the world's carbon dioxide emissions in national news.
