Speaker 2 00:00:18 Good morning. You're listening to the day. Cat, your morning news brief from w N R news. I'm your host Izzy Perra. It's 9:00 AM central time on Tuesday, April 26th, 2022. Here are the headlines to start your day. Speaker 2 00:00:32 Northwestern continues its search for a new speed Dean announcing its plan to form a committee to do so yesterday, the committee should be a mixture of past and present students, faculty, and staff amounting to 12 members in total provost. Kathleen Haggerty will be in charge of supervising the committee while SPI professor and developmental psychologist. Emma, Adam will act as its chair. The choice will not be limited solely to the opinions of committee members as any member of the Northwestern community can send a deans or to email to them with nominations and opinions about the process. Speaker 2 00:01:06 Evanston city council unanimously agreed that the city is in a state of climate emergency. Yesterday night, after a vote, a new climate resolution was passed. It pushes the council to commit itself to planning the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Evanston, as well as prioritizing the execution of the climate action and resilience plan, which requires that all properties will be run on renewable at electricity by 2030. And that the city will achieve a state of carbon neutrality. By 2050, this resolution was passed as a response to criticism stating that the climate action and resilience plan wasn't explicit enough, allowing for the achievement of its goals to be neglected and prolonged. However, Evanson has made some progress achieving its 2020 goal of powering its municipal operations. With 100% renewable energy President Biden announced his first three presidential pardons earlier today. One man afforded this privilege was a secret service agent from Chicago who was active during press John F Kennedy's term. He was accused of trying to distribute agency information and convicted of federal bribery. Two people with drug related charges were also pardoned because of the positive influential roles they have fulfilled in their communities. President Biden also reduced the sentence of 75 others convicted of drug related crimes that were non Speaker 2 00:02:25 President Biden and his administration are working to make Pfizer produced COVID 19 antiviral pill pack SLD more widely and readily available across the country while it had been a scarce treatment. Initially, the decline in COVID cases has allowed for an expanded supply. The administration is currently trying to reassure doctors if it's abundance and availability to those in need of it.
