Speaker 1 00:00:33 Morning, you're listening to the daily cat. Your morning news brief from WMUR news. I'm your host Izzy pariah. It's 9:00 AM central on Friday, February 18th, 2022. Here are the headlines to start. Your day COVID cases have dropped from an average of over 32,000 cases per week on January 12th to 3,299 cases per week on February 17th. So long as case numbers keep decreasing. Governor JB Pritzker voiced a proposal to end mask mandates in Illinois on Monday, February 28th, excluding in spaces such as schools, healthcare settings, public transportation, and similar places. The city of Evanston has stated plans to follow suit, aiming to lift mask and vaccination requirements. By Monday the 28th, as long as case numbers continue to drop to freshmen on Northwestern's fencing team, Rowan park and killing Sathya Nath are being sent to the junior Olympics. This weekend park will participate in the junior women's foil event happening later today while Sathya Nath will participate in the junior women's saber event. Speaker 1 00:01:37 This Saturday, Northwestern will also be hosting the big 10 fencing conference championships next weekend. Good luck to them and go cats. Chicago city council committee voted in favor of mere rights lawsuit concerning the violence. She faced at the hands of the Chicago police in 2020, where she was dragged out of her vehicle, outside a mall. The committee suggested that she be paid up to $1.7 million by the city as a consequence UN secretary general, Antonio Gutierrez claims that the world is currently facing a larger security threat than during the cold war because of the current tensions between Russia, Ukraine, the U S and other world powers. While he believes that the war is not necessarily inevitable yet he suggests that the use of heavy cautiousness required to keep conflict at bay and ensure that no communication errors will be made to inflame these tensions.
